Born and raised in Santa Barbara (CA), Analese Alvarez has been an educator for nearly two decades with experience at secondary and university levels. She enjoyed an outstanding career teaching high school music, leading her previous school’s music department to become a GRAMMY Signature Schools recipient in 2015. A longtime advocate for equality and human rights, she has spent many years working with LGBTQ+ youth and Allies as a club advisor for Gay Straight Alliances, a volunteer with the Gay & Lesbian Center of Las Vegas, and Co-Chair of the Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network (GLSEN) Southern Nevada Chapter. Her work in Las Vegas included creating the “GSA Jam” which brought together school-based youth organizations for an annual social and networking event. Alvarez holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Southern California and a Master of Music from Northern Arizona University, both in Music Education. In 2015, she decided to pursue an Ed.D in Educational Administration and Supervision at the University of Toledo, where she is a Graduate Assistant for the Judith Herb College of Education and the Rocket Marching Band. Now a doctoral candidate, she is looking forward to working alongside the local LGBTQ+ communities in Ohio.
